Sandbox fun

We recently got a sandbox for Jon's parent's yard. It is intended to provide Nicholas a nice place to play, where he doesn't have to worry about other kids and I don't have to worry that a cat has been in the sand (it has a lid). The sandbox is all for Nicholas. He has a similar one at daycare, so he knows what they are for.

He really enjoys the sandbox, and likes it best if you play with him.

This is a great picture of our son - and one of the few times I have been able to get him to look at the camera. He got a boat and pail set for his birthday, and he likes to play with it in the sand. Particularly the boat because he can bang the boat against everything else in the sand box.

He doesn't eat the sand very often anymore. But he does like to pick up handfuls of it and throw it everywhere. Including at his mother and father. And in his hair. I never knew all the places that sand could get in (and on) a baby. But i am sure learning quickly.

Our visit to Jon's work

For those of you who don't remember, I don't work at Finance anymore, so it is now Jon's work. We visited there abotu a month ago. Everyone really liked seeing him. He got into a lot of trouble in Jay's office - he tried to play with the blinds and bent them :) But he was so cute, and gave hugs to everyone and wanted to be carried by everyone. He also wanted to eat one of my old co-worker's food, and she gave it to him! He simply reached for it, and she gave it to him. I think she was surprised that he ate it, but hey, what else would he do with it.

See, even Nicholas sometimes get tired of being at work. Not often, but his yawning here meant that he would go to sleep in the car on the ride home and take his frist nap of the day.

Jon's co-workers are nice enough to let Nicholas into their offices. I don't know why, since he takes everything off their desks and plays with everything, but they are great with him. This particular co-worker had a ton of great stuff on her desk. Including a highlighter - which Nicholas found fascinating. He also likes pens and pencils. We try to not let him have them, since they get eaten or stabbed into parents.

It turns out that while at work Jon is expected to work - even if Nicholas is there. So Jon had to answer a phone call and Nicholas got to sit on his lap and point out the window to try Jon to name everything. Just one problem, dad was on the phone! And Nicholas was not going to leave his father to come with me. No matter what.

Steve works at Finance too, and so Nicholas got to hang out with Steve for a while. Steve let him wear the CDF cap - pretty cool.

So it has been rather nice for the last week here in Sac, except for the few days when it was raining. Nicholas really likes to be outside. In fact, he will bring his shoes to you and try and get you to put them on him when he wants to go outside. He simply pulls his shoes out of whatever pile of toys they are in, walks them to you, and then sits down, as if you are just going to put his shoes on. His other favorite trick is simply to dash out the door when you open it. If you aren't careful, he's getting out. And once he is outside, he is gone.

His favorite is to find mud. Or to pull up grass and then drop it, and watch it go with the wind. He also likes trees. And bugs. He is simply a boy, what can I say.

Anyways, here's a cute picture Jon took of Nicholas while they were outside the other day.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse

Nicholas has a new favorite TV show - Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

It's an animated thing with Mickey, Minnie, Donald etc. It's on Disney Channel in the mornings and afternoon, and is OnDemand with Comcast at any time (although they only have 4). We watch it every afternoon. It's his downtime when he doesn't want to take a nap, but needs to rest from being all rambuncious.

Anyways, this animation is the new kind, and is all bold and bright colors. He hear's the music for it and toddles/fake runs/walks to the TV and then starts dancing. He simply dances right in front of the TV. It is cute.

And then he crawls into your lap and will watch it with you for the 20 minutes. But only if you talk to him during it, bounce him during the music and explain everything that is going on. However, it is still better than chasing him around outside when it is hot. So I will take it.

He really loves the show. I am tired of the standard songs that they have every episode - including the introduction. I know them as well as I know every other song. But he likes it. Great.
